This morning we take a look at our newest Jet. They brought him in for a tryout during rookie camp, and were impressed enough to give him a contract. Spotlight on WR Royce Pollard, University of Hawaii.

He measures in at 6’1″ 175 pounds.

As a senior he caught 71 passes for 1,011 yards receiving and78 TDs (2011)
As a junior he caught 64 passes for 901 yards receiving and 8 TDs (2010)

PROS: Catching that many passes over 2 years, he clearly has ability, I don’t care what his competition was. He’s a decent height for a WR at 6’1″. Although he wasn’t invited to the combine, he showed decent, although not elite speed at his pro day, running a 4.62 forty yard dash.

CONS: His lack of elite speed gives him a tough time getting off the line quickly, and at only 175 pounds, he needs to put on some muscle to take the contact he will get in press coverage at the next level. He’s a little small to play at the physical level the NFL requires as well.

Here again is some video:

He cleary has ability, he looked good enough to the Jets to offer him a deal. Will he make the team? Who knows. He surely will have as good a shot as anybody.
