This morning, with rookie camp opening up, we take a look at a guy that is ranked highly by our friend Jake Steinberg of thejetsblog.com. Spotlight today on Brett Roy, DE/LB, Nevada.

He measured at 6’3″ 275 pounds at the NFL combine.

He’s been a consistent pass rusher, with 8 sacks and 13.5 tackles for a loss as a junior in 2010, and in 2011, 9 sacks and 17.5 tackles for a loss. (per cfbstats.com)

PROS: He is a crafty pass rusher.  He extends his arms well in order to gain leverage on blockers.  He relies on his instincts to get to the backfield and bring down rushers before they get to the line of scrimmage.

CONS: He doesn’t have great speed (only ran a 5.07 40 yard dash at the combine).  As such, he doesn’t have great burst to accelerate from his man. He often can play a little too “upright” at times.

Jake Steinberg says this is a guy to watch out for, and he has accurately predicted choices the Jets have made so far.  Anyone with that consistent sack production has talent, and therefore potential to make the team.  You can never have too many pass rushers, and this guy will get his chance to make the team, and we wish him luck.
