The one position that the Jets did not address in the draft is right tackle. We all saw the young man pictured to the right play last season, and therefore we are all none too aware that this is a position of need for the Jets. You might be worried that we are stuck with Wayne Hunter after no picks were made at the position in the draft. Fear not, although he tops the depth chart for now, a competition is on the way. If camp started tomorrow, here are other guys that will be in camp.
Caleb Schlauderaff This is a guy that the Jets traded for last September from the Green Bay Packers. He’s 6’4″ 305 pounds, and although has played guard in his life, will compete for the right tackle spot.
Austin Howard Here is a guy that the Jets are high on, as well as a lot of our fellow reporters on the web. Friend of thejetpress Jake Steinberg(@Steiny31) strongly believes that the Jets will come out of camp with this young man as the starting right tackle. He earned second team all conference honors in 2008 and 2009 in college after converting to tackle from tight end, and at 6’7″ 333 pounds, he is built for the job. Let’s hope.
And of course, if all else fails in the competition, there is always this guy to compete:
Here’s one guy who hopes that it doesn’t get to that point, how about you?
