In the spotlight today is one of the newest New York Jets, chosen with their third round pick on Friday. Spotlight on Demario Davis, linebacker Arkansas State.

The video shows that this guy is quick, has a nose for the football. Coach Ryan said he reminded him of a young Bart Scott, and I can see why. His pursuit of the football mainly, reminds me of a day when Bart actually “couldn’t wait” to make a tackle.

He was a consistent performer at Arkansas State, with 60+ tackles in each of his last 3 seasons in school.

PROS: Davis is quick, as evidenced by his combine 40 yard dash of 4.61 seconds. 32 reps in the bench press show his ability to get through blocks on the inside. His quick burst off the snap puts him immediately on the ball on every play. His ball pursuit is unquestionable. He’s also a big hitter as well.

CONS: He needs to improve in the passing game, but that will come with time. He also isn’t a major force in the pass rush, which will make him better suited in the pros on the inside.

Bottom line, a good consistent tackler will have every chance to make a mark on Rex Ryan’s defense.
