The Jets gave their fans something to smile about tonight, with the choices of Stephen Hill and Demario Davis. Here are some reactions around the web.

Pick Grade: B

The Jets get a really athletically impressive kid to be their big receiver, and he joins one of the craziest franchises in the NFL. I hope he translates his athletic ability on to the field because I really like him, but he is super raw.

Pick Grade: B+

Davis is pretty raw, but he’s got great athletic ability and can potentially be a starting linebacker for the Jets eventually. I’ll have a more in-depth analysis of this pick later. Great speed at the linebacker position.

The Jets needed to find another big play threat on offense and in my mind, they got the draft’s top size/speed combo. Hill is a developing route runner, but he’s explosive down the field, can track the football and could mature into the best receiver to come out of this draft class.

NFL Ceiling: True number one NFL wideout

NFL Floor: Inconsistent vertical threat

Davis is a thumper who can play the ILB spot for the Jets defense and be that downhill type player. He’s got some natural pop to his game, plus he can also change directions, range and defend the pass. Another talented piece to improve the Jets defense.

NFL Ceiling: Above-average NFL starter

NFL Floor: Solid NFL starter

Mike Mayock-nfl.com on Hill

Mayock’s take: “We’re going to call this kid ‘Thrill Hill’. This kid can jump, he’s fast, he’s long, he’s athletic. I was stunned at how well he got in and out of breaks. But he’s very raw.”

Mayock’s take: “This is an interesting pick, but I think he fits what the Jets are looking for.”

The good: WR Stephen Hill will provide a tall, sure-handed receiver for QB Mark Sanchez and balance across the field from WR Santonio Holmes. The bad: Hill has limited experience coming from an unconventional offense where he had only 49 total receptions and nine touchdowns. The bottom line: The Jets needed a tall, fast target for Sanchez to bolster their passing game, and they got it — if he can adjust quickly.

The good: LB Demario Davis is noted for his speed and his ability to drop into coverage against the run. The bad: Davis is not a pass rusher (seven total college sacks), so the Jets may have to convert him to play on the inside. The bottom line: The Jets needed a linebacker, but whether Davis will fill the bill is a question mark.
