AFC East First Round Draft Review: Quick Hits

The first round of the draft has come and gone, and the Jets as well as the other teams in the AFC East were all successful. Here’s a review:

The Dolphins, as expected, took Ryan Tannehill. There were a lot of mixed reviews on Tannenhill early, but his pro day rose his stock considerably, and the Dolphins think they finally have their heir apparent to Dan Marino.

This we have discussed at length already, so we will summarize. I like the Coples choice, despite the mixed reviews. He is insanely talented, can be a force off the edge. The questions about his work ethic I believe will be answered well. He will be motivated by the fact that the Jets wanted him that badly. Trust the fact Rex wanted him, he knows defensive players.

A lot of people had the Bills choosing Reilly Reiff here, so Stephon Gilmore was a bit of a surprise. It should be a pleasant surprise for Bills fans, a good cover corner on a team that allowed 371 yards per game on defense.

The Patriots had two picks last night, selecting Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower. These will make strong additions to a defense that is aging and underperforming to Bill Belichick’s standards.

Topics: Alan Schechter, Buffalo Bills, Chandler Jones, Dont'a Hightower, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, NY Jets, Quinton Coples, Ryan Tannehill, Stephon Gilmore
