New York Jets Three Round Mock Draft

The draft is a few hours away. The time to speculate is almost over, and we will finally find out who the newest New York Jets are going to be. After the different scenarios I have given through mock drafts and draft spotlights, today, I am going to give you my take on the first three rounds of the draft. I am not going to try to predict the picks at the end of the draft as the Jets have far too many, so I am going to stick with 3 rounds. So here it goes, my three round Jets mock draft.

Courtney Upshaw, DE, University of Alabama

News did come out yesterday that the Jets made sure they have Trent Richardson’s contact info in case they make a trade. I do believe that Mike Tannenbaum is going to make a big time effort to get him. This is a big year for Tanny, and I think he will swing for the fences, but the price will be too high. There is also talk about maybe Mark Barron here as well, as well as Michael Floyd, the receiver out of Notre Dame. I truly do not see them going offense in the first round, although I believe Michael Floyd would be a successful player with the New York Jets. They are going to go with the defensive side of the ball, and I believe it will be a pass rusher. See our preview of him here.

With 16.5 sacks over the last two years, he would make a great addition.  Unless the Jets trade up for a Quinton Coples or a Melvin Ingram, which is possible, this is where I believe they will go.

The Jets will fill the hole at safety in this round, and I believe it will be Harrison Smith from Notre Dame.

See our preview of Smith here.  The Jets brought him in for a visit and are quite high on him, as he could be the ball hawk they are looking for.  I mentioned that they might go after Mark Barron in the first round, and that would obviously change this pick.  However, they have mentioned how they aren’t convinced that Barron would fit into their scheme.  Smith will be the way to go.

With the wide receiver class being quite deep, I believe the Jets will go this route in the third round, and I think Mohamed Sanu will be the guy.

He’s a big target which the Jets like. He’s a local guy, and Sanu has said that he wants to play with the Jets after visiting with the team, and that they showed a lot of interest in him. I think this is the guy for them.

If a guy like Alshon Jeffery or Rueben Randle fell to them, or they traded up, I could see them going with one of those guys, but if they stay in their place, Sanu will be a Jet, in my opinion.
