Jets Draft Spotlight: Gerell Robinson

This morning, with the draft rapidly approaching, we take a look at a player that the Jets worked out at the Senior Bowl. He’s a late round projection, who became a go to guy in his senior season. Spotlight, Gerell Robinson, WR, Arizona State.

For a full scouting report, check out our friends at nflmocks.com

He is 6’3″ 227 pounds, and runs a 4.62 40 yard dash (per the NFL combine results).

In his senior season, he recorded 77 catches, for 1,397 yards and 7 TDs, a whopping 18.1 yard average per catch.

Pros: At his 6’3″ size, he is strong in the red zone. He puts in a lot of effort and is a physical player.  He is tough to bring down, and is effective catching the ball in traffic.

Cons: He struggles to get off the line, despite his size.  He needs to gain more versatility in his route running.   He doesn’t have elite speed, and needs to create better separation.

Take a look at the video and you be the judge:

When I look at the video, I think the reviews are accurate. He catches the ball nicely, doesn’t let it come in to his body, catches it with his hands. He also uses his body well to get position. But, he doesn’t separate well, and doesn’t get a heck of a lot of yards after the catch either.

Not a pick to be had too early, but with a late round pick and a bit of coaching, he could be a find later on in the draft.
