Jets Sign S DeAngelo Smith

The Jets added some depth at safety today.

After creating some room with the release of Taylor Boggs, the Jets signed DeAngelo Smith.

More of a depth move than an influential one, Smith last played for the Cleveland Browns in 2010, where was active for one week, and then signed to the practice squad.

The Jets needed players and they got one. If he will make the team is another question entirely.

UPDATE 4/13/12

This turned out to be premature, as Smith is visiting this weekend.  See “Update” post for more details.

Why is no one else reporting this as a “signing?”
Smith hasn’t even visited the Jets yet.  Are you certain they signed him?

  • AlanSchechter

     @JackBarker
a couple of the beat guys were reporting it last night via twitter that it was a done deal.

  • JackBarker

@AlanSchechter But nary a peep from Cimini, Mehta, or Vrentas about a signing.  “A done deal” doesn’t necessarily mean the deal is done.
The reason I’m harping on this is that Wikipedia already shows him as a Jet, and footnotes you as the source, but it turns out that you are without a real source.

  • AlanSchechter

@JackBarker one of the other bloggers had posted it, I wouldn’t have written it if I didn’t see it.

You are correct I was in error, and I posted an update on a post today, acknowledging the gun was jumped.

@JackBarker here is the source i went by
I reported a few days ago that the #Jets had interest in safety DeAngelo Smith. Now that deal is official. Smith is a New York Jet

not going to say who the blogger was but that is who I went public based on…so yes I did have a source.  i was wrong it happens, and I did do an update on the situation above.
