His career effectively ended in 2005, when he was placed on injured reserve with a “bone on bone” knee injury, which prevented him from rushing for an eleventh straight season for over 1,000 yards. Martin officialy retired in 2007.

Martin was a member of the inaugural class of the Jets ring of honor, and was elected to the Hall of Fame this year.
