Now that didn’t take long, did it?
As it shouldn’t come as a surprise, Drew Stanton has asked for his release from the New York Jets. Who can blame him? One week ago he was told that he was the number 2 quarterback. Now, there is another guy coming in to be the number 2. Why would he want to stay here? To be a number 3? He could have stayed in Detroit to do that.
He is the guy that gets screwed in this situation. Yes, there will be extra scrutiny on Mark Sanchez. Yes, he will hear the chants if he doesn’t play well. All very true. But the guy who got the short end of the stick is Drew Stanton. He was looking for his chance to be a backup, and the Jets were all too willing to give him that chance. Now he is told, sorry, you can compete to be the number 3? Not fair?
It hurts Mike Tannenbaum’s credibility. Stanton wants out, and he should be allowed out. To reference older times, he no longer wants to be the “backup QB of the NYJ”.
