The Jets have finally landed a big fish in free agency. Adam Schefter has learned that the top safety on the free agent market is coming to Florham Park. The Jets have come to terms with former Redskins’ safety LaRon Landry on a 1 year $4 million deal.
He certainly adds a body to a backfield that sorely needs one. The Jets only had one safety on the payroll, the great Erc Smith. Any Jets fan that saw Tim Tebow run right past him for a game winning score among the many other “great” plays he made knows we needed an upgrade here.
Landry, although not know as a “ball hawking” safety, will be a significant upgrade over Eric Smith. As long as he can stay healthy. Before running into injury problems the last 2 season, LaRon amassed 23 passes defended in his first 3 years along with along with 250 tackles. He will serve as a great addition to the backfield that needs to stop the likes of Rob Gronkowski. And, anyone is an upgrade on Eric Smith.
