Santonio Holmes will be back with Jets

Dispelling all rumors that New York Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes will not be back next season, owner Woody Johnson couldn’t think of a world without Tone Time.

Speaking to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Johnson declared that Holmes will be back in 2012.

“He may be one of the best players we’ve ever had,” Johnson said.

Putting aside Holmes’ place in the all-time Jets lineup, this was probably not the best thing for Johnson to say.  Who’s to say what Holmes will do next now that he knows his owner is 100% behind him.

The Jets owe Holmes $7.75 million in fully guaranteed base salary for 2012. If he’s on the roster as of March 14, they’ll owe him another fully guaranteed $7.5 million fully guaranteed base salary for 2013.
