With 3:27 remaining in Saturday’s New York Giants 29-14 victory over the New York Jets, Giants running back D.J. Ware, running along the sidelines, was hit late by Jets linebacker Aaron Maybin. Ware couldn’t stop his momentum and he crashed directly into Coughlin, slamming into the 65-year old coach’s knee.
Coughlin was attended to quickly by the Giants medical staff but stayed on the sideline. He would later limp into the postgame press conference.
“Never better and thank you for asking,’’ Coughlin said jokingly. “Nobody is worried about how fast I am. I got it in the knee, I think it is up higher. You can imagine what the players said when I went by.’’
