The playoff picture is still a whirlwind for the final wildcard.
Even though the New York Jets got smacked 45-19 today in Philadelphia, they are still the sixth seed, and thus the final wildcard team in the AFC. Here’s why:
Both the Titans and the Raiders lost today, pushing their records to 7-7 each. The Bengals won today, running their record to 8-6, a tie with the Jets. However, the Jets hold a 10 game lead over the Bengals in strength of victory, so by virtue of this tiebreaker, the Jets would be in.
So the moral of the story, is that although today’s game was another one to bury the football from, the Jets still control their own destiny. If the Bengals and Jets both win out, the Jets make their third straight trip to the playoffs. A three way tie with the Bengals, Jets and any of the teams in the hunt could be interesting.
Let’s hope that we don’t have to sort that out.
