Nnamdi Asomugha.  Remember him?  He was the prized free agent the New York Jets wanted to play alongside Darrelle Revis at cornerback. Signed a 5 year, $60 million deal with the Philadelphia Eagles instead.

With this Sunday’s Eagles vs. Jets game, there will inevitably be questions about Asomugha’s decision to sign with Philly and not the Jets.

So how close was he to signing with New York?

“Really close,’’ Asomugha said. “I really liked the staff there with the Jets. I’m really close with Rob Ryan, so I know Rex his twin would be very similar to him. And during the 48 hours that we were able to talk they were saying some really great things.

“I liked how the defense plays; it wouldn’t have been much of an adjustment. I was really close; then the Eagles came in in that 11th hour and all along I’d always admired the Eagles. They were always a team if they we involved that’s where I wanted to be.’’

So are the Jets better or worse without Asomugha?
