Bears Cutler to miss rest of season with broken thumb

The Chicago Bears playoff hopes just took a major turn.

Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that quarterback Jay Cutler will miss 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery on his right thumb.

Cutler broke his thumb during a fourth quarter interception when he was blocked into the ground, according to the Chicago Tribune. He threw two passes after that, completing both of them

This is a major loss to a Super Bowl contender as the 7-3 Bears will be without Cutler until the playoffs, if they make it.

With upcoming games: at Oakland, vs. KC, at Denver, vs. Seattle, at Green Bay, and at Minnesota, it will be up to backup Caleb Hanie to get the team there.

Head coach Lovie Smith told FOX this week he thought this was his best Bears team.
