Jets Aaron Maybin causes Mayhem in victory

What was everyone thinking when they compared Aaron Maybin to Vernon Gholston?

In his three games as a New York Jet, “Mayhem” Maybin has produced more sacks, fumbles and excitement than three years of Gholston.

In last night’s 24-6 victory over the Miami Dolphins, the New York Jets forced five Dolphins fumbles, recovering one.  Maybin was responsible for two, including a fumble from RB Reggie Bush and a strip sack from QB Matt Moore which the Jets recovered.

Overall, Maybin has two sacks and three forced fumbles in three games with the Jets.

“He’s self-proclaimed ‘Mayhem,’ and I think it’s a pretty good nickname for that kid. I said to the team, ‘The crazy guy played pretty good for us,’ ” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said after the game.

How’s this for redemption:  Maybin, the 11th overall pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2009, didn’t record a sack in 27 career games with the Bills.

“I love the way he runs all over the place,” Ryan said. “He has a relentless motor and he’s always thinking about getting those takeaways… Eventually, he’s going to learn our whole defense and that’s really going to be exciting.”
