Derrick Mason says time with Jets never happened

Derrick Mason on the New York Jets?

Never happened.

At least that’s what Mason thinks.

“To me, I went from Baltimore to here [the Texans],” Mason told The New York Post after the Ravens beat his new team 29-14 in which Mason caught 3 passes. “I don’t know what you’re talking about when you mention that other place, but this place here I’m excited about.

“The two teams that I’ve played for, Tennessee and Baltimore, that’s all I care about. They respected what I did as a player — inside the locker room, on the field and outside the locker room. That’s all I care about.

“What went on with that other team . . . it won’t tarnish my career, not one bit.”

Ouch.

And everyone said Rex Ryan would have former players begging to play for him and the Jets.

“Listen, I’m a very, very bright young man,” he said sarcastically. “I’m very smart. I was here for three or four days and I picked up on a lot of plays and they threw a lot at me.”

As for Mason’s ex quarterback, Mark Sanchez; let’s just say he has more confidence in Texans QB Matt Schaub.

“Matt has a lot of confidence in me. I instantly smiled [when he learned about the trade] because this offense scores a lot of points and they have a very good quarterback. That’s a wide receiver’s best friend when you have a good quarterback.”

With the trade to Houston for a conditional seventh round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that if Mason collected 33 catches in the final 11 games, the Jets receive a seventh-round pick in 2012. If he doesn’t, the Jets get nothing.
