With the New York Jets visiting the New England Patriots this weekend, it’s time to visit with the Pats for some early news updates.
First item: Head coach Bill Belichick admits that the Patriots looked at Jets WR Plaxico Burress in the offseason.
“We did look at him in the offseason just because of his general availability as we normally do,” Belichick told New England reporters on Tuesday. “Look at all the players that are not connected with a team….We look at everybody. Obviously, you don’t get everybody. Some things come together, some don’t.”
Second item: Patriots QB Tom Brady couldn’t care less about the recent injuries to the Jets.
“Join the club, man,” Brady told a Boston radio station on Tuesday. “We’ve had plenty of injuries. Every team does. It’s football. Everybody gets riled up in Week 2 or 3, but depth is very important on every team. How a team adjusts to when players aren’t in there (is big). But they’ll be ready to play. They have a lot of good players. It’s going to be a fun game. … This is one we gotta go get.”
Third item: Patriots Danny Woodhead
Woodhead will be a game-time decision after suffering an ankle sprain last week in Oakland.
Fourth item: Jets pass on former Pats LB Tully Banta-Cain.
The Daily News is reporting that the Jets aren’t interested in Banta-Cain. Enough said.
Fifth item: Patriots WR Wes Welker
Welker has 40 catches for 616 yards and 6 TDs in 4 games. Santonio Holmes has 13 catches for 164 yards and 1 TD.
