Remember when Eric Mangini ratted out his old mentor, the one and only Bill Belichick, causing the Patriots to receive heavy fines and to lose a draft pick?
Well, the former Jets coach wishes it had never happened.
“I owe so much to Bill,” he told Boston’s WEEI Radio on Tuesday. “I appreciate what he’s done for me and my intention was never to hurt him or the (Patriots) organization, the Kraft family.”
Mangini said he “never wanted to hurt the organization by any stretch.”.
Coach Mangini tipped the league off about “spygate”, and this fractured his already rough relationship with Bill Belichick.
“How it could have been different, how different decisions and events could have taken place, I’m not sure how it would have played out differently,” he said. “I just didn’t want it to play out the way it did.”
Is his relationship any better after leaving the Jets? He seems to think it’s improving.
“Probably like the New England defense,” Mangini said of his rapport with Belichick, “it’s a work in progress.”
