San Diego Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding, entering the season as the most accurate kicker in NFL history, will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL during the season’s opening kickoff.
Head Coach Norv Turner said only that the kicker tore ligaments and would have surgery.
The injury came when Kaeding was attempting to tackle Minnesota Vikings KR Percy Harvin who returned the opening kickoff 103 yards for a touchdown on Sunday.
“He planted and he kind of got spread out,” Turner said Monday. “There was no contact on the play.”
Tryouts begin tomorrow for a new kicker.
