Mark Sanchez Was None Too Thrilled With His Coach on Possible Benching

Clearly, Mark Sanchez is as competitive as his coach Rex Ryan.  It’s a big part of the team’s success, but apparently almost caused a problem last year.

Mark will be on the cover of GQ in the upcoming September issue, and he opened up about how he felt about Rex stating that he was considering benching his second year quarterback following the loss against Miami.

“Rex is super honest,” Sanchez said in the magazine interview. “I wish he wasn’t that honest at times, especially to say that. I wanted to fight him. I was really mad.”

Journeyman backup quarterback Mark Brunell took a few extra snaps with the first team during that week of practice, but Sanchez’s job really wasn’t in jeopardy.  Sanchez being unaware of that, was none too pleased.

Sanchez said that offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer told him that the head coach wanted to give backup Mark Brunell extra reps in practice the next week. Sanchez’s response: “I was like, ‘He can come tell me. And (Schottenheimer) is like, ‘Come on, man, don’t do that,’” Sanchez said.

He certainly is competitive, Mark Sanchez, that’s for sure.
