Either New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick runs an extremely tight ship or Shaun Ellis’ hip is not fully recovered.
The former New York Jets defenseman was put on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) by the Patriots, according to Aaron Wilson of Fox Sports.
Ellis, recovering from a hip problem, told reporters yesterday that he hadn’t yet taken the team conditioning test. While he can resume practice at any time, he will still count against the 90-man roster limit while he is on the PUP list.
If he remains on the PUP list once the regular season begins, he must sit out the first 6 games of the year.
This can’t be too big of a problem as the Pats gave $4 million to Ellis for this season. Look for Ellis to return once he takes, and passes, the conditioning test.
