The New York Jets braintrust let us in on a not-so-secret, secret: Head coach Rex Ryan likes to call the defensive plays.
But credit Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine for his part. As Bob Glauber of Newsday reported, Ryan and Pettine share responsibilities during the game.
The coaches change who takes what downs from game-to-game and sometimes within a game. While Pettine called the majority of the plays during the regular season, Ryan has taken over during the playoffs. Pettine admitted that both coaches get pretty vocal during the game.
“If anybody ever recorded us on the headsets, we’d have our own reality show,” Pettine said. “People say we’re like brothers on the headset, and we’ve been approached after the game and they’re like, ‘Hey, are you and Rex OK?”’
