Lions to be without 2 top players vs. Jets

Detroit Lion Safety C.C. Brown will not play because of a right knee injury, and coverage specialist Isaiah Ekejiuba is out with a left knee injury, according to the team’s official injury report.

Rookie Amari Spievey will make his second start of the season in Brown’s place. He played the final 12 minutes of last Sunday’s win over the Washington Redskins, but has seen minimal action in the secondary since moving from cornerback to safety earlier this year.

Ekejiuba has seven special teams tackles this year and is a fixture on the Lions’ cover units.

RB Kevin Smith (knee) and linebacker Ashlee Palmer (hamstring) are questionable for Sunday’s game, and quarterback Shaun Hill (forearm) is doubtful. Hill said Thursday he can’t yet hand off with his fractured left forearm
