Childress to wail until Sunday on Favre

From News Services

Brett Favre’s healing ability is headed for another down-to-the-wire finish.

Favre was on the field for drills Friday, with limited participation in practice for the first time this week. He wore a wrap on his left ankle, which has two fractures that have threatened his NFL-record streak of 291 straight games started.

Vikings coach Brad Childress said he “probably will” wait until the last hours before Sunday’s game at New England to decide if Favre or Tarvaris Jackson will start. The decision will be based on Favre’s mobility and his ability to protect himself, Childress said.

Asked about his mobility, Favre quipped, “Better than an iron deer on the lawn.”
