Patriots close to trading Randy Moss

The New England Patriots are close to trading receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings contingent on Moss working out a contract extension with the team that drafted him in 1998.

If a deal can be completed this week, Moss’ first game with the Vikings also will be Brett Favre’s return to the Meadowlands to play the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported Tuesday night Moss asked his agent, Joel Segal, to contact the Patriots and request a trade after that game.

Moss, 33, is in the final year of his contract with the Patriots.
