Jets football continues…

In a perfect example of what has worked so far this season, the Jets took care of business Saturday night and dismantled the Bengals 24-14 in the AFC Wild Card game.

1. Jay Feely deserves a number 1 today. Learning immediately before kickoff that punter Steve Weatherford was having an irregular heartbeat, Feely became the Number 1 punter.  7 punts with 3 inside the 20 was perfect.  His FG kicking was perfect as well, even making 2 consecutive punts that were called back for Jets penalties, including a 52 yarder that he convinced Ryan to take.

2. Mark Sanchez. 12 of 15 for 182 yards and a TD did not do complete justice to his performance. It was confident, it was strong and it should have been better had Braylon Edwards not dropped a perfectly thrown 50+ yard pass that went right between his arms. Great throws on slants to Cotchery all night and great play-actions to Dustin Keller on a couple of plays.

3. Shonn Greene. 135 Rushing yards. Looking like he was hitting the defense rather than the other way around, Greene was punishing and quick.  A 39 yard TD run turned the game for the Jets.

4. Darrelle Revis. Can’t even say enough about Revis. There is complete confidence in Revis to the point where the other teams number 1 receiver is just eliminated from the start. Ochocinco was no exception Saturday.

5. Referees. 3 penalties against Revis were just imaginary. It’s scary to think the Bengals could have stolen this game because of phantom calls against Revis. We will see if the NFL makes any comments this week on the refs.  Simply horrible calls.

6. Marvin Lewis. Whoever is telling Lewis to challenge plays will be looking for a job this week.

7. Carson Palmer. Looked more the rookie part than Sanchez.

8. Great defensive pressure by the Jets. Thomas, Ellis, Leonhard all set the tone early and often.

9. Jets need to think about why they couldn’t stop Cedric Benson.  Looked like they didn’t stack the box at all and played to stop the pass. Even when Palmer was floating passes all over the place, the Jets still feared Palmer and his main targets, Caldwell and Coles.

Overall a great game and a feel good win.  Now on to Indy or San Diego.
