Should he stay or should he go?

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

At the moment, it appears that Kerry Rhodes is still a wanted man in Gotham City.
Despite not living up to the 5 yr., $33.5 million contract extension he signed in 2008 with $2.8 million base due in 2010 and $2 million bonus due in March, Rhodes says that Ryan called him and told him the Jets need him next year.
“Rex Ryan is my guy. I like Rex a lot,” Rhodes said. “We get along. We’re great friends. He called me [yesterday] and reiterated again that they want me here. And to be honest, I really do want to be here. This [...]

Overexposed

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

You knew what was coming. We all knew what was coming. Peyton Manning was not going to go down like that.
With a 17-6 lead with 2:11 left in the first half, and after Sanchez threw a perfect 80 yard pass to Edwards, Manning marched the Colts 80 yards on four plays over 58 seconds, hitting Collie for three straight completions for 18 yards, 46 yards and then a 16-yard touchdown. The 46-yard pass play was a killer because it looked like Drew Coleman miss-timed his jump and had the ball go just over his arm. That score cut the Jets’ [...]

Gameplan and predictions for Sunday

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Here we go, folks.
You know what’s at stake. 60 minutes to the super bowl.
Get in your lucky chair; get the same food you have eaten for the past two games out; get that lucky shirt out of the dryer.
60 Minutes.
Here’s what needs to be done to win:
1. Stop Peyton Manning. Obvious right?  Let’s break it down a bit. Manning is known for his ability to get to the line, read the defense and call a play accordingly. The Jets need to mix it up when 1) Manning gets to the line and 2) When Manning makes a play call. Confusion [...]

The Ultimate Jinx

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Just got the following email from the New York Jets:
“Pre-Order now and be the first to have the Jets AFC Champs gear”
Are you kidding me???  The link included pics of Jets sweatshirts and hats with AFC Champions on it.
This is right up there with showing a field goal kicker’s stat of “never missed a FG from under 35 yards” right before the 30 yard kick.
Good job, Jets.

AFC Championship Game

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Aside from Shaun Ellis breaking his hand (Ellis will play Sunday), the Jets come away from San Diego in good health and good spirits.
The keys to Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the Colts (which will be discussed later in the week) will be similar to the keys against the Chargers; namely, Run, blitz, contain.
Listening to Mike Francesa this afternoon on 660 WFAN, you would think the Jets absolutely stole that game against the Chargers.  Francesa sulked through his segment today, and received a barrage of calls from Jets fans who complained about Francesa’s attitude.  Gotta love Mikey.

Gentlemen, start your engines

How sweet it is….
After a season which has seen hope mixed with history topped off with a little attitude, the Jets are in the AFC Championship.
Last nights 17-14 victory against the Chargers exemplified what the Jets are all about this season: They will wear you down with their run, they will keep you alive with their defense, they might make you sweat and bring back bad memories of the past, but in the end, they will prevail.
Despite the Chargers coming out in pregame and telling the Jets that they didn’t belong on the same field as them (something that Bart [...]

Game time

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In anticipation of Sunday’s playoff game at San Diego, here are some keys to look for:
1. Blitz, blitz, blitz.  San Diego has too much talent on offense. Way too much. Philip Rivers has 3 solid receivers (Vincent Jackson  and speedy Malcolm Floyd among them), TE Antonio Gates, and RB Darren Sproles, to look for. That’s a lot. Probably more than the Jets have seen this season. If the Jets can put some pressure of Rivers, they stand a chance of hanging in there. The Jets front 4 is not good enough to force any pressure (see Week 1 through last [...]

Schotty says kiss it.

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sources are saying that Brian Schottenheimer has denied the Bills the opporunity to speak to him regarding the head coaching position.
While Schotty wants to become a head coach, he apparently is waiting for the right situation and doesn’t want to jump into any head coaching job.
“I’d love to be a head coach, but I say that with an asterisk. That’s my dream, but I want to be a head coach when the time is right, when the situation is right. I don’t want to just take a job to take a job.
“For the first time in three years, I’m really, really [...]

Woodson wins NFL Defensive POY

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers, tied for the league lead with nine interceptions, returning three for touchdowns, was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year, receiving 28 first place votes from a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL.  Jets CB Darrelle Revis was second with 14 first place votes.
Upon hearing the news, Coach Ryan congratulated the 14 writers who voted for Revis, stating that they understood the game of football.

Jets grant permission to Bills

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Bills have formally requested permission to speak with Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for their head-coaching vacancy and the Jets have granted permission.
By rule, the Bills are allowed to meet with Schottenheimer this week at a location and time convenient to him and the Jets, who are preparing for a divisional playoff game in San Diego.
If the Jets win, the Bills can’t speak to Schottenheimer again until the bye week before the Super Bowl.
On the plus side, hopefully Schotty will not have one less day to draw up some dumb Tigercat play for Sunday.
On the negative side, this is [...]
