Word out of Jets camp is that QB Mark Sanchez had his best practice of the week and is ready to take on the Carolina Panthers tomorrow.
This is particularly good news for the Jets for two reasons:
1. Sanchez is coming off a terrible game last week at New England and public opinion was undecided on whether a benching was required this week;
2. Carolina, while a good defensive team, does not blitz with their linebackers and relies on their front 4 to provide pressure. This will allow Sanchez some added time to focus on the fundamentals and drop back and throw, rather than be rushed out of the pocket. Throw in the fact that Carolina is already banged upon defense, and Sanchez could be looking at a relatively calm game.
Panthers defensive back Julius Peppers is still suffering from an undisclosed hand injury which could hinder his ability to pressure Sanchez.
Predictions:
With the Jets still second in the NFL in rushing yards, look to Thomas Jones to improve on his already solid year. With 884 yards, Jones needs 116 to hit the 1,000 mark for the 5th straight season. Good running with allow Sanchez to find his targets and open up the air attack. Working with a linebacker by committee team right now, if the Panthers can’t contain Jones, this game is over.
While DeAngelo Williams is having another solid season, he is suffering from a sore left knee; we will see if that affects him tomorrow.
