Prediction for Jets/Dolphins

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Justin Miller. Remember that name, Jets fans ?
The former pro bowl kick returner, cut by Oakland earlier this season, is back with the Jets and ready to return kicks. Signed due to the injury suffered by Leon Washington, the 25 year old will be strictly used on special teams and not on defense this week.
As for any injuries this week:
Jets: None to report. Cotchery and Sheppard participated in limited action this week and are ready to go.
Dolphins:
- LB Channing Crowder did not participate in practice this week and he will be a last minute decision.
- DT Jason Ferguson has a foot injury but [...]

Jets vs. Dolphins – Key Matchups

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sunday afternoon, the New York Jets look to redeem themselves from their earlier Monday Night loss to the Miami Dolphins.  Here are the key matchups to look for:
1. Jets Defense vs. the Wildcat.
It wasn’t hard to see that the Jets could not figure out the Wildcat during the last meeting. On the Dolphins first possession, RB Ronnie Brown took the snap and threw a pass play. From that point on, the Jets looked hesitant in attacking the run. Look to see if the Jets attack the run and force Brown to throw the ball up rather than sit back and wait.  [...]

A little perspective

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

With the Jets upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday, all eyes will once again focus on Jets QB Mark Sanchez with the hopes that a repeat of the Bills disaster will not occur again. Although a mere 7 games into his NFL career, the expectations from Sanchez are large. Is it fair? Should this amount of pressure be put on the Rookie? And if so, how has Sanchez responded?
Taking into account the history of first round QBs, there is a long, long, line of failures.  And while the 2004 NFL Draft produced an unusually large amount of success [...]

Edwards faces legal troubles (and possibly NFL troubles)

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jets Wide Receiver Braylon Edwards was charged with misdemeanor assault Monday for a dispute outside a Cleveland nightclub Oct. 5, when Edwards was still a member of the Cleveland Browns.  A hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 17 in Cleveland Municipal Court.  If convicted, Edwards could face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
The Jets released a statement saying: “The team was aware of these allegations prior to acquiring Braylon from Cleveland. He has been cooperative with authorities, and we will allow the legal process to run its course.”
Being that the matter is being held in Municipal Court, and not Superior Court, it [...]

Bring on the Fins

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

In anticipation of Sunday afternoon’s Jets vs. Dolphins matchup at the Meadowlands, Kerry Rhodes appeared on WFANs the “Boomer and Carton Show” this morning to discuss the game. Rhodes promised that things would be different this time (Jets lost 31-27 to the Fins Oct.12 at Land Shark Stadium), and mentioned that the team (specifically the Jets secondary) really wasn’t prepared for Chad Henne.
The Miami Dolphins fell to the New Orleans Saints 46-34 this past Sunday after being up 21-3 in the first half; and 34-24 after three quarters.  The Dolphins once again thrived with the wildcat with Ricky Williams gaining [...]

Washington done for season

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Leon Washington suffered a broken right leg Sunday, during the New York Jets 38-0 victory over the Oakland Raiders, when a Raiders defender landed on Washington’s leg during the Jets first possession from scrimmage.  Washington’s fibula bone fractured and broke through the skin.  The injury will be season-ending with a timetable for recovery of about 12 weeks. This means Washington will potentially be ready for conditioning drills in early 2010.
The 27 year-old Washington stayed in Los Angeles to have immediate surgery and avoid any potential infection that could occur when the bone breaks through the skin.
Obviously this is a devastating loss [...]

Ground Control, we have liftoff

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

It started early, and it was loud….  No, not the Black Hole.
Sunday was all about the Jets defense (Welcome back Calvin Pace), getting to JaMarcus Russell early and often, and forcing the Raiders QB into making mistake after mistake, until Tom Cable had seen enough and subbed in Bruce Gradkowski late in the second quarter.  The Defense was on a mission today. They would not let Mark Sanchez, or anyone else for that matter, ruin this opportunity.
After the Defense made their point, the Jets running game all but destroyed any chances Darth Vadar and the rest of the Imperial empire [...]

A major hole in the middle…

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As the Jets head to the Black Hole in the Bay, they will be dealing with a big hole of their own. Coping without Kris Jenkins is going to be tough, especially this week.
The Raiders offense has showed glimmers of consistency in the run game, especially at home. The Jets are going to have to bring the heat to get it done this week. The secondary should get used to being on an island for the foreseeable future. Gang Green is going to have to dial it upearly and often and hope JaMarcus Russell hasn’t all of the sudden found [...]

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday…

AUTHOR: Marc A. Greenberg | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The day can’t come soon enough for the New York Jets. What began as a dream is slowly turning into a classic Jets nightmare. For Rex Ryan, the goal was to turn around the franchise, beginning with the Defense, and have the team become respected and feared throughout the league. For Rookie Mark Sanchez, the goal was to remain upright, not make classic rookie mistakes, and get through the season with a sense of accomplishment and security. After week three, things looked pretty good, yes? 3-0 was nice, yes?
What happened? Where did it all go wrong? [...]
