Jets get Defensive…

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

If you haven’t noticed, Mike Tannenbaum and the Jets brass have made an effort the past two years to build this team towards the defense. Whether it’s building the O-line so the running game can take pressure off the defense, or the moves to bring in Jenkins, Pace, Scott, Sheppard, etc… the Jets are building to be an imposing force.
The Jets are now in a position where they can try to develop the offense through the draft. I am confident the Jets will certainly provide depth to the WR, QB & RB positions through this draft. I would also not [...]

The War Room Strategy… Quarterback.

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: None Yet

While I’d love to say I know what’s going on behind closed door’s, here’s what I’m thinking. This could be a conspiracy theory, but here it is anyway.
I don’ t think the Jets are legitimately thinking about mortgaging their future on the 17-20 Jay Cutler who will likely cost more than he is worth. I also don’t believe the Jets are trying to angle a position for Sanchez or Stafford.
At this point I have a feeling the Jets are sold on K-State QB Josh Freeman. I think the huge arm and the Flacco/Big Ben comparisons are too much to pass up. [...]

Some more on Cutler….

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Don’t get me wrong, if Jay Cutler comes to NY, I’ll be the first one in his Jersey.
I’m just saying I don’t think it’s the answer. I just don’t see the fit.
I know the Jets don’t know what they have in Clemens, Ratliff or Ainge, but I do think they should find out.
Otherwise they should look to the draft. The picks the Broncos would demand is also way too high.
The Jets already lost Pennington & a 3rd round pick for the most INT”s in the NFL last season. Though as far as ownership is concerned, he did sell a lot [...]

Jets need to stay away from Cutler!!!

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 12 Comments

Why wouldn’t the Jets want a young gunslinging QB? The reason is because it goes totally against what this new regime is trying to put in place. Rex Ryan believes in winning football games by controlling the ball and playing balls to the wall defense.
Jay Cutler is a young Brett Favre. Both need to throw the ball all game long, and both need to be the center of attention. While I think Cutler is a good young QB who with the right coach could learn how to play smart football is just not that guy right now. Rumors are he [...]

Jets eyeing Freeman?

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

The Jets are holding a private workout with K-State QB Josh Freeman on Monday. This was reported earlier today by Dave Hutchinson. Check it out…

To be honest, I’m not sold on Freeman just yet. The kid probably won’t make it out of the first round due to his huge upside, but I’m still weary of going after a QB this early. If Freeman does impress though and has the highest marks on their board they should do it. I’m a big fan of getting all the best football players possible regardless of needs. Freeman does have a big arm and comes [...]

Jets Draft History Unkind…

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

While the Jets have done a nice job in recent years moving up to get the guys they’ve wanted, let’s not forget the heartache of years past. We need to hope Vernon Gholston will have more luck this year as he’ll have a chance to learn from fellow Detroit native Bart Scott.
There’s not too much news around the Meadowlands right now, so I figured a trip down memory lane might be fun.

Gotta laugh about it, I guess.

Jets quietly plugging holes as they prepare for Draft Day!

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The Jets have been been plugging depth needs along the way since the big splash they made with Scott & Sheppard early in this free agency campaign. Rex Ryan and Co. are looking very Parcells “esque” with the “my guy” additions made to this squad. The addition of Jim Leonhard gives a translator of Rex’s language in the secondary, while of course Bart Scott will fill those duties along the linebacking crew. Now the Jets have signed Howard Green to backup Kris Jenkins in the middle. Green, by the way, also had time under Ryan in Baltimore. This signing could [...]

T.O. joins AFC East!!!

AUTHOR: Brad Cotter | IN: Jets | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Bills signed Terrell Owens to a 1 year, $6.5 Million dollar contract today. Owens will join Lee Evans in what becomes one of the better WR corps in the division. Now the Jets will have 4 opportunities to deal with two of the most talented, controvertial WR’s in the league in Moss & Owens.

Rex Ryan and the Jets will most certainly put a full court press on making sure their pass rush & the secondary have plenty of depth going into this season. Gang Green’s weakness last season needs to become their strength going forward.
The biggest need this offseason is to instill a [...]
