I didn’t write a review after the St. Louis game because I wanted watch it a few more times to really see what I could take away from the game. Here’s what I came up with.
The Jets defense is really good. They need to continue to force turnovers if they want to compete with the big boys. Then again, St. Louis played really bad, and without they’re best offensive weapon. Would that have made a difference? Not much is my guess.
Next I learned that the Jets are at least willing to give the running game a chance. Thomas Jones leads the AFC in rushing and has done so with minimal carries. The offensive line is starting to gel and the holes for Jones and Washington are getting bigger.
Brett Favre must be Irish. He threw 3 passes directly to a St. Louis defender which was dropped all 3 times.
So what can we take away from all of this? I’m going to take away the fact that the team played great as a whole. Favre was a fantastic leader on the sideline and I really appreciate his enthusiasm… but that can’t be all we get.
The Patriots have surrendered 4 TD’s on the ground this year, all against the Dolphins. The Pats will once again stack the line of scrimmage and dare Favre to beat them. The difference in the first game was Favre had 1 turnover and Matt Cassel had 0.
The Jets brought in Brett Favre because they thought he would help them get past the Patriots. I have been extremely critical of this move since day 1. I thought Pennington was not the problem, it was the offensive line and the fact we had no interior D lineman to stop the run. While I know I’m right, the fact remains that this organization has hung their hat on this move and brought Brett in specifically for this game. They need him in this game as the game will come down to the QB’s. If Favre can manage to make the right reads and he is careful with the ball I have full confidence the Jets can pull this one out.
We’re looking at a smashmouth game with questionable weather. The Jets have always had to come up with trickery to fight this bully. It’s now time for them to strap it up, and push back.
My guess: Jets 22, Pats 13 in a slugfest!!!
