Opportunity Knocks!!!

Gang Green is in a great position this week to make their mark on this division. As the Patriots and Bills will be beating each other up this weekend, the Jets will welcome in the 2-6 Rams. The Rams have played well since Jim Haslett has taken the helm. This game presents the Jets with another opportunity to gain some semblance of consistency.

Keys to the Game:

TURNOVERS??? Yes, I’m beating a dead horse the way Mangini and company should be doing all week. When asked if he would consider being more of a game manager this week, Brett Favre responded, they knew what they were getting. He’s right, the Jets brass had to know they were getting a gunslinger. It did sound like he was willing to be more of a game manager though so let’s hope he’s able to reinvent himself. That will cement his legacy as a true great and not just a compiler. It’s up to the play callers to put Favre into situations that he’s not turning the ball over. Most teams respect Favre’s deep ball, so the Jets need to call the game very conservatively. This team was built with that philosophy, so why they would go away from that makes no sense to me… but I digress…

PRESSURE… Marc Bulger has struggled this year against teams that are able to apply a lot of pressure. My guess is they will attack the Jets with a variety of screen passes to slow the Jets attack. They know there’s no running against this squad so the screen game and quick hitters is their only chance to stay in the game. The Jets need to be in press coverage and need to keep a spy on Jackson the whole game.

RUN, THEN GUN!!! Thomas Jones and Leon Washington should find plenty of room against the Rams this week. While it will be important for this team to get Favre a positive game, they can help him by pounding the run to loosen up the D. Favre is great when he is dumping the ball off and has time to step into his throws. The running game will allow all this to happen. Brian Schottenheimer needs to go back to basics and build this team throught the run. We have a monsterous offensive line who needs to be going down hill if this team will have any chance going forward.

WE NEED AN IDENTITY!!!

THE DEFENSE NOW HAS AN IDENTITY AS A RUN STUFFING MACHINE!!! WE NEED TO ESTABLISH THE OFFENSE AS A RUN FIRST, MISTAKE FREE SQUAD. PLEASE, I’M BEGGING YOU GUYS, BE SMART!!!
