Mangini goes for the tie, in the preseason…

Overall I thought the game last night was a success. The most important part was obviously the confidence that the first team got with Brett Favre and the defense looked solid as well. Unfortunately everything past the first teams looked suspect. I liked how hard Jesse Chatman ran, and I thought “the other” Brett looked great too. To be honest, Kellen Clemens looked fine as well, but for whatever reason none of the receivers were catching Clemens or Ratliff’s passes when it counts and that’s a problem. I thought Marcus Henry looked the part, and Dwight Lowery is looking like another fourth round steal! We have #4 @ QB now and all these 4th round gems… time to Play the Pick 4!

All in all, I thought the squad looked pretty good. Gholston still looks lost and I caught him not finishing plays a few times, but you can definitely see the potential. Like I said before, it’s preseason and no one really shows their hand so it’s tough to get a feel on what kind of team this will really be like. The running game looked solid throughout and I’m hoping that becomes a trend!

By the way, I know Mangini wants to see how people perform in certain situations, but sending Nugent out there at the end of a preseason game to send overtime is a little overboard. There is no reason to send anyone else out there in overtime. Go for the win and get back to the drawing board. Even if it was the regular season, 5 seconds is enough time to run a play at home. Regardless, I’m hoping to see some more progress next week! Here’s the highlights if you missed it!
